Bullying - Story 9

Resumes of calls to the Helpline where families are too distressed to record full details:
  • Girl child aged three and a half, cornered in toilets by little boys of similar age who then exposed themselves, i.e. took their pants down. Children singing "willie will fit". Mother found out because child began wetting herself.
  • Boy 8 held down in changing room and dirty pants stuffed in mouth.
  • D's problems started when being made to stand in the corner in primary school which triggered a panic attack and, consequently, asthma. Bullying by a teacher continued over a long period resulting in bed wetting and waking at nights screaming from nightmares. Mum, herself, believed that she would end up with a mental breakdown from the stress of supporting D and asked help from her GP. D was consequently referred to a psychologist who said "There is nothing wrong with D other than school did not suit her and recommended home education. After D was in control of her world through HE peace and joy returned to the whole family. They had all been affected by her experience. D's panic attacks and asthma became a thing of the past excepting on one occasion when a visit from the LEA triggered an asthma attack.
  • Over a long period W had been bullied by both teachers and peers and he told his parents that he would rather be dead than go back to school. Unfortunately they insisted on his return and twice found him with abbrasions to his neck after attempting to hang himself. For three years after starting home education he woke his family at nights screaming in his sleep and a psychologist, who was asked for help, said that if he had not been removed from school he would have had severe mental health problems throughout his life.
